A few things to remember when developing a social media strategy

By Anastasia Hilinsky

A social media strategy is crucial in creating a social media marketing plan.

Here are five simple guidelines to consider:

  1. Remember that you should locate and listen to your audience prior to engaging.
  2. You should be creating a two-way dialogue where you are engaging with your audience. Speak with them, not at them; dominating the dialogue is a good way to turn your audience off and hinders the inherent beauty of social media involvement. You want to learn from the conversations you are having with your audience.
  3. Don’t forget to offer your audience perks for allowing you into their network. This may be in the form of insider information, special coupons, or contests. The sky is the limit on this one! Be creative.
  4. Your rules of engagement are vital to your success! Remember that when you are speaking on behalf of your brand every time you post. This means you need to take into consideration what your brand stands for and remember that it is important that you do not alienate your audience.
  5. Don’t forget that your audience is human and they’d like to get to know the brand for the people behind it and its’ day-to-day operations. Take a human interest approach, no one likes a faceless corporation.
